Winners of the Week : Sania, Saina and Somdev

Congratulations to both Sania and Saina for keeping the indian flag high and winning titles at Bnp Paribas Open and Swiss Open Grandprix respecively. And it was just great to see the way Somdev went on to fourth round of Bnp paribas open and the way he played the world No.1(he had his chances to win the game).

It was really stunning to see the way Sania along with doubles partner Vesnina(rus) easing past the much higher ranked Mattek Sands & Shaughnessy with 6-0, 7-5. In Total, Sania & Vesnina broke their opponents 6 times(which is really grt display). They were just simply on top of their much famed opponents.

And as always, most consistent performer of india, Saina nehwal has won the singles title at Swiss Open Grand prix and it feels happy to see the way she defeated her opponent Ji Hyun Sung with 21-13, 21-14. That was just a complete domination but nothing else.

I strongly wish to see more and more such performances from all the S's(Sania, Saina and Somdev).

Thats it for the week.

Thus, India ends its campaign in Malaysia Open 2011 with a very disappointing note.

Sania and Somdev crashed out of Australian Open 2011, but only after a tough fight

Both Sania and Somdev last their Australian Open first round matches to Justin Henin and Tommy Robredo respectively after a very good fight, but have proven that they are competent enough to beat the biggies in tennis.

Sania has won her first set with 7-5 against former world no.1 Justin Henin and almost threatened to win the match, before loosing second set to Henin with 3-6.When it has come to the decider, Henin just showed why she is a champion and won it easily with 6-1, as sania was tired and slow. But, The way sania played the match shows that she is back to her form, which brought her to world no.27 ranking.
Somdev also gave a good competition to tommy robredo by taking the first set to tie-breaker. But, he lost it there and the remaning sets with 6-3 and 6-4. Even though he lost the match, he has played really well and proved to be the future star of indian tennis.

it was like asking kenya to win against India in first round of cricket world cup and india just winning through a couple of runs, doesn't kenya will be really happy abt it.

So, let us wait for the doubles matches, to see paes, bhupathi and sania in action again.I hope they will have a better draw this time.

Tough Draw for Somdev and Sania in first round of Australian Open 2011

Both, Somdev devvarman(wild card entry) and Sania Mirza(entered main draw by winning 3 rounds of qualifying matches) have got the tough draw in Australian Open 2011.

Somdev will be playing World No.51 Ranked Tommy Robredo(ESP) in his first round of clash at Australian Open 2011. Whereas, After winning 3 qualifying matches convincingly, Sania Mirza has got to play World No.13 Ranked Justin Henin(BEL)(one time World No.1 and several grandslams winner). It would be hard to expect them to go ahead, but I would like to see them giving tough competition to their much higher ranked opponents.

One more interesting thing for India at this Australian Open is that, their much proved and several grandslam winner pair of Leander paes and Mahesh Bhupathi are going to compete together. I surely have great expectations on them, after seeing the way they won the recent Chennai Open in india.

Both the matches will be played tomorrow(16th Jan 2011)

Sania enters Main draw of Australian Open 2011 by beating Stephanie Dubois(CAN) in third round of qaulifying match

Sania enters Main draw of Australian Open 2011 by beating Stephanie Dubois(CAN) in third round of qaulifying match with 6-2, 6-3.

Thus, india comfirms it's participation in both men's(somdev) and women's(sania) singles and men's doubles(paes and bhupathi) in Australian Open 2011. I hope for some good results going forward.

Here is a snippet about the match from Australian Open 2011:
"In a match almost entirely made up of short and sharp rallies, Mirza's awesome power shone through. After a close start, the Indian elevated her tennis, swiftly taking a 5-2 lead, and promptly closed out the following game to take the set. Opening the second set with a trademark cross court forehand winner, Mirza oozed confidence off her more lethal wing.

She wasted little time in between points, badgering herself for the occasional miss but getting on with the task at hand without difficulty. Her only hiccup came when her opponent broke back at 4-1 in the second, which momentarily stemmed the flow of games for the talented Indian. A third round loser only to Serena Williams at Australian Open 2005, Mirza's experience was on display when she held her nerve to go ahead 5-3. A game later, she was into the main draw of the Australian Open for the seventh time. While it remains uncertain whom Mirza will face in the opening round of the Open, one thing is certain: she will continue to go after her forehand relentlessly."
